I've had very limited luck with the re-surfacers, really no better than a good cleaning with windex and a soft cloth that I've been able to see. If you're lucky you can actually end up trimming out less than a second. Select the chapter just after the bad spot and scroll back to just after the bad spot. You then load another instance of the program stream. Use the play and frame advance to get as close as you can to the bad spot and trim there. Move carefully at this point because if you hit the bad spot DVD Shrink will lock up and you'll have to kill it from the control panel. Select the nearest chapter before the bad part then move through the film until you hit the exact scene. Go to re-author, select the program stream you want then go to the trim function. Most seem to work ok so not a huge worry. This presumes obviously that it is not so damaged as to not allow the initial analysis.
